Being a game tester

During my gap year after high school, I lived in Romania, where I worked at a QA office, Here I operated as QA Tester for HITMAN II.

I would have to test a level of the game to see if the behavior of the game environment and all the NPCs acted according to plan, and if not, I would report the issue to the appropriate JIRA database.

Additionally, I would validate if updates of the game build actually addressed those reported issues, or if they needed to be readdressed since the update wasn’t sufficient yet. Hitman II is a multi-platform game, so I was tasked to test multiple platforms such as PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. For all these platforms, multiplayer capabilities had to be tested as well.

What this job taught me was to think outside the box to invoke unexpected behavior in the game and find the technical limits. But also how to operate within a team, communicate and work with each other effectively, and achieve the task at hand as efficiently as possible.

Facing pressure in regard to making deadlines and outperforming other QA teams was something I gained familiarity with. All in all, an experience I am grateful for having since it thaught me about what type of work I enjoy doing and how I want to do it in the future.
